One of the trickiest challenges we face in the classroom is keeping our CNA, PCT, and Health Science students engaged while also reinforcing essential concepts.
You know how it goes… one minute you’re reviewing infection control, the next minute, someone’s zoning out and doodling on their hand.
That’s why I created the “Fill the Wash Basin” Interactive Games- designed to make review time exciting, collaborative, and hands-on.
These games are printable, paper-based, and classroom friendly, perfect for energizing students whether you’re reviewing at the end of a unit, running centers, or just trying to keep everyone awake after lunch.
How the Game "Fill the Wash Basin is Played"
The concept is simple but so effective:
- All the students need to play this game is the playing cards, tokens and a wash basin (not included)
- Students pull a card with a question (for example, on infection control, bowel & bladder, or vital signs).
- If they answer correctly, they “earn” a token—these can be bubbles, soap, water droplets, or bath thermometers—and place it into their real wash basin.
- If the answer is wrong, the card goes back into the pile to give another student a chance later.
- If a student or team draws a “Lose a Turn” (your water is cold) card, they lose a turn.
- Play continues until the teacher calls time or the question cards run out.
The student or team with the most tokens wins!
Play Variations for Fill the Wash Basin Game
- Large Classes: Divide into teams. One member answers at a time while teammates cheer them on.
- Small Groups/Centers: Students rotate through the game independently, answering cards and adding to their own basin.
- Teacher-Led: The instructor reads questions aloud, and students compete individually to fill their basins.
