Using Centers to Reinforce Military Time Blog

Using Centers to Teach Military Time in CNA & PCT Training

Let’s be real—military time can be tricky for students to master. Sure, we can hand out conversion charts and go over it in lecture, but that doesn’t always stick.

Students need hands-on practice, and what better way to do that than by using centers?

Wait… Centers? In a Nurse Aide Class?

Yep!

If you’ve ever been in an elementary classroom, you’ve probably seen centers in action.

Kids rotate through small stations, practicing different skills in a fun, structured way.

And guess what?

It works just as well for healthcare training!

By setting up military time learning centers in your classroom, students get to move, collaborate, and reinforce their understanding in a way that’s way more engaging than a worksheet.

Plus, it keeps them from zoning out (or sneaking a peek at their phones 😉)

How to Set Up Military Time Centers

Using the Military Time Mastery Bundle, you can create four interactive stations that make practicing military time fun and effective.

Station 1: Write the Room Activity

Students search the room for “time” cards and write down the standard or military time equivalent.

Students toss “snowball” papers with military times, grab one, and race to convert it correctly.

Station 4: 24-Hour Clock Bingo

Students mark their Bingo cards as military times are called out.

You will need a “caller” for this center.

How it Works

✔ You’re the timekeeper, signaling when it’s time to rotate.  I like 30 minute time periods for these centers.
✔ Students move through each station, working solo, in pairs or small groups.
✔ You circulate the room, answering questions and making sure everyone’s on track.

Why Centers Are a Game-Changer

✅ Keeps students moving – No more nodding off during a lecture!
✅ Reaches all learning styles – Visual, hands-on, and interactive.
✅ Makes military time practice actually fun – And let’s be honest, that’s a win!

I’ve used this setup in my own class, and it works wonders. Students stay engaged, get tons of practice, and actually remember what they learn.
