In fact…when I asked one of my students why they love BINGO so much, she responded “I think it’s the friendly competition. I mean, not everyone is good at a sport or something like that. We are all equal here.”
- Positive Reinforcement: The thrill of shouting “BINGO!” and winning creates positive reinforcement. This reward system encourages students to participate and makes them excited about learning the material.
- Multisensory Learning: BINGO uses sight, sound and movement. Students listen to the information being called out, visually scan their cards, and process the material mentally to mark their cards. This, my friends, fits the Universal Design for Learning (UDL). This multi-sensory approach helps with memory retention and makes learning stick!

3 Fun Variations of BINGO for Your Classroom
To keep the excitement going, here are three ways to put a fun twist on traditional BINGO for your Nurse Aide students:
- Picture BINGO Swap out the numbers for pictures of commonly used Nurse Aide equipment, anatomy parts, or other healthcare-related items. When you call out a term like “stethoscope,” students have to match the picture on their cards. This is a great way to reinforce visual learning.
- Term-Definition BINGO Use terminology on the cards and call out definitions. For example, you might call out, “Inhaling food or liquid into the lungs,” and students would have to find “aspiration” on their cards. It’s a perfect way to review for exams!
- Scenario BINGO This version uses real-life care scenarios on the BINGO cards, like “Affected side” You call out the scenario, such as “Mr. Jones had a CVA and cannot move one of his arms. Which side would you dress first?” and students match it to the answer on their cards. It’s an excellent way to reinforce quick decision-making skills.
